Frequently Asked Questions
Questions regarding registration will be addressed at the New Student Registration Meetings on the last Thursday of each month.
Q: Does your class schedule change?
A: Our class schedule will change as needed to meet the needs of our
students. As much advance notice as possible will be given.
2.
When & how do I pay?
Monthly fees are to be received by the 7th of
each month. Monthly reminders will be sent out via e-mail at the
beginning of the month or will be handed out to students at the end
of class. You can pay using cash, check or credit card. Credit card
payments can only be made on-line at
www.Paypal.com. Our account is
under:
Shawnie@AmericanFamilyKarate.com. When paying monthly dues by
credit card please add $3.00 to help cover credit card fees. If your
dues are not paid by the 11th of the month please do not
bow in until making arrangements with Sensei Brown. A $15.00 late
charge will be added to your next invoice. If you have unforeseen
circumstances, please talk to Sensei Brown. We can usually work
something out.
3.
What other fees are
involved?
Belt exams are $30.00 and include your new belt and a framable
certificate. Students will only be allowed to test when they have
proven knowledge of requirements for the rank they are testing for.
There will be no charge if a student does not pass. AFK t-shirts are
available in the ProShop. Prices vary. You do not have to purchase
these. With permission students may wear plain black t-shirts.
Students who choose to participate in tournaments may do so (it is
not a requirement for rank advancement) however, the tournament fees
are set by individual promoters. As a student progresses to yellow
belt he or she will need to purchase sparring equipment, mouthpiece
and protective cups for males. Equipment prices vary depending on
your choices.
4.
Where do I buy my uniform
or sparring equipment?
Approved uniforms & sparring equipment area available in the
ProShop..
5.
What are the belts & when
can I test?
Rank advances are as follows: White, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Green,
Blue, Brown 3rd Kyu, Brown 2nd Kyu, Brown 1st
Kyu, Black. Students can
expect to test only when they know the needed material. For white to
yellow this will be approximately 2 to 4 months. Adults usually take
2 months and young children closer to 4 months for yellow. The
higher the rank the longer the time in-between tests. For a complete
listing of requirements for belt advancement please visit our web
site. Tiny Tigers and Little Dragons do not follow the traditional
rank structure until they reach yellow belt.
6.
I have a physical
limitation, can I still do karate?
YES!!! Please let our instructors know so we can work with
you to best suit your needs.
7.
Is my child old enough or
ready for this?
Each child is different. In order to be successful, children
should be able to pay attention for at least as long as their class
time. Having a basic knowledge of left from right will also help
older children. Tiger Tots is a great way to start children ages 3 &
4. This class requires that an adult participate WITH the child.
Little Dragons are for ages 5 to 7 yrs.
8.
This looks FUN, can I join
with my child?
YES!!! We love parent/ child groups and families. We’ve even
had a Grandfather with his grandsons. Karate offers a way to set a
positive example for your child(ren) by encouraging a positive
attitude, a healthy active lifestyle and giving you an open door to
talk about self-defense & strangers.
*** Parents, we encourage you to stay and watch your child’s class,
further we encourage you to participate along with your child. If
your child is younger than 6 years old parents must be on property
while class is in session. If at any time you have questions
regarding your child’s participation and instruction in Soryu Karate
please contact Sensei Brown at 207-4641, by e-mail at
Shawnie@AmericanFamilyKarate.com or after class. Please do not
be offended if she cannot talk to you between classes. Classes often
run back to back with limited time in between.***
